JOB OPENING :: Dryland Cropping Systems Specialist

The Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska is accepting applications for a Dryland Cropping Systems Specialist, a 50% research, 50% extension, a twelve-month, tenure-leading faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture and administered at the Panhandle Research and Extension Center located at Scottsbluff, NE. Tenure home for this position is the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, with administrative assignment to the PHREC. Rank and tenure will be based on experience and credentials of the successful applicant. If hired at the Full Professor rank, the candidate will be reviewed for tenure prior to hiring and would be eligible for consideration for the Fenster Dryland Crops Professorship. Extension and research programs will be focused on efficiency, profitability, and environmental management of High Plains cropping systems with an emphasis on dryland production. The appointee will serve as the Faculty Supervisor for the High Plains Agricultural Laboratory at Sidney, Nebraska, with responsibilities including development, funding, and conduct of research trials and oversight of personnel and facilities.

Research responsibility is to investigate intensive dryland and limited irrigation cropping systems that emphasize water management, weed control, and soil conservation. Continuation of a Long-Term Tillage Experiment at the High Plains Agricultural Lab is expected, as well as developing an aggressive and productive research program valued by regional producers and related industry partners. Extension programming will be designed to help clientele enhance profitability, sustainability and ecosystem services of cropping systems in Nebraska, special attention will be placed on weed control issues. Aggressive publication of results in recognized peer-reviewed journals, supervision of graduate student research, revenue generation through acquisition of external grant funds, and contributions to extension publications and extension teams will be required for this position.

Requires Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. in place by date of hire, in Agronomy or closely related field.
