Location Headquarters:  Orland, Glenn County, California

The Area Cooperative Extension (CE) advisor for agronomic cropping systems/weed science will conduct a multi-county based extension, education and applied research program with a focus on plant sciences including the optimization of agronomic cropping systems and weed science in Glenn, Butte and Tehama Counties. Primary crops include forage crops, alfalfa, corn, oilseeds, wheat, dry beans and cotton. The general focus of agronomic work will be on soil science, water quality and irrigation efficiency, plant nutrition and fertilizer efficiency, improved varieties, pest management (weeds, insects and diseases), marketing, and economics. The focus on weed science will address issues in agronomic crops as well as other agricultural crops of local significance including orchard systems (almonds, walnuts, olives and prunes). Key clientele include growers, farm managers, pest control advisers, allied industries, commodity groups, seed companies, irrigation districts, conservation/environmental groups, public agencies, and consumers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of a master's degree is required, though other advanced degrees are encouraged, in disciplines such as plant science, agronomy, crop science, pest management, and crop production with specific emphasis on weed science. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are required. A demonstrated ability in applied agricultural research and extension is preferred.

SALARY: Beginning salary will be in the Cooperative Extension Assistant Advisor Rank, and commensurate with applicable experience and professional qualifications.
